Whey Protein is a dietary supplement for athletes containing quick release high biological
value whey protein concentrate.
Milk whey represents 20% of milk protein; unlike casein, which is a globular derivative, whey is soluble and thus it is digested quickly and allows to absorb amino acids into muscles as fast as possible.
Taking it before and after workout prevents muscle breakdown during exercise and stimulates protein synthesis (the formation of muscles) after training. Milk whey also contains the greatest concentration of branched-chain amino acids (BCAA) Leucine, Isoleucine and Valine - among all other powder sources of protein; that is the reason why it is so effective in stimulating growth. Another reason why milk whey promotes muscle growth is its ability to raise the levels of insulin at a greater rate than powder proteins. This characteristic is essential after workout since it facilitates the transport of glucose and amino acids into muscle cells, giving a strong boost to protein synthesis. Moreover, milk whey supplementation also promotes vasodilation.
Whey proteins contain peptides, which are able to inhibit angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE), the most powerful vasoconstrictor ever known. By inhibiting ACE, milk whey promotes vasodilation, increasing blood flow, nutrients, oxygen and hormones and enhancing muscle pump.
